Loose Laws-Blog Post 2
Late-Term abortion laws do not effect everyone in the United States. For this reason most people don't even care what really goes on but they should. There is a real grey area in our laws and if something like this is allowed to happen, when is the stopping point. I found an article titled "Doc Charged for Late-Term Abortion" on ABC News' website. It was written by a Lisa M. Collins and was most likely written for citizens of Michigan because it involves a court case here about a late-term abortion. She is a journalist that works for ABC and has covered some topics like this one before. This article was written in April and talks about one of the first cases where a doctor could be convicted for performing a late-term abortion since the Roe v. Wade case. This doctor performed the abortion after 28 weeks into the pregnancy which is past the deadline in Michigan. The woman who got the abortion claimed she had just went through a divorce and had other kids to take care of. This is not technically a valid reason but is in the grey are of our laws where it could be considered as effecting the mental health of the patient. Bills are currently trying to be passed which would make the laws more strict but it is unlikely to pass through the senate. The state court ruled that the abortion was not performed for medical reasons and could lead to the doctor being convicted.
